A philosophy supported by the Weatherford Police Department
for years is a working program allowing members of our community
to work hand in hand with members of the police department to reduce
criminal activity in Weatherford. We accomplish this goal through
citizen-based programs such as "D.A.R.E.", "McGruff the Crime Dog",
"T.R.I.A.D." (which includes working with our mature citizens),
"Neighborhood Watch", and "Business Identification" (BID) identifying
each business in Weatherford with a number in order to effectively
notify owners in the event of an emergency.
A new program is "Police Internships" for both high
school and college students. This allows them to have a bit of first
hand knowledge of the workings of the police department.
Each year officers "hit the beat" during special activities and holidays to show support and develop a rapport with members of the Community. Whether it be walking the downtown businesses during Christmas, or walking through the baseball park during summer little league games. |
