About Us

The City of Weatherford Parks and Recreation Department’s Walking for Wellness Program took its first step on September 4, 2007, with a fun walk at the Radar Park Sand Plum Trail.

The free community-wide walking program was established to raise awareness and community involvement for everybody in the Weatherford community: individuals, families, schools, churches, businesses, etc. With the support of volunteer committee members, community partners and numerous participants, the walking program continues to take positive strides toward encouraging a healthy lifestyle through fun and fitness in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Walkers of all ages can start participating at any time. To be included as a participant, walkers must submit their walking activity (either online or using the walking log document).

While Walking for Wellness participants will be rewarded with better health, incentives as well as educational and motivational talks can help get people interested in the program and help keep them interested. Therefore, at least one free event (a walk or a talk, sometimes both) is scheduled. Join other health seekers at the optional Walking for Wellness Program walking events and educational programs. The walking program is not only good for individual health but it supports community involvement and neighborliness.

The free Walking for Wellness Program is organized by volunteer committee members. Fundraisers and donations pay for incentive prizes, motivational education expenses and promotional costs of the program. To support the future of the Walking for Wellness Program, please contact the City of Weatherford Parks and Recreation Department (522 W.
